About My Practice

Ms. Ruth Ann Stoltzfus is a licensed clinical social worker with 30 years of experience. She is in private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland and Washington, D.C. With compassion and respect for others, she has treated persons from many walks of life, with varied educational, professional, ethnic and sexual orientations.

Adults and youg adults experiencing anixety or low mood and depression are frequently seen in her office. She works with relational issue, whether between siblings, friends, or romantic relationships.

She has a special interest in all aspects of families and particularly likes to help new mothers find their own relationships with their babies.

Transitions are especially important in families as they offer an opportunity for greater strength along with presenting challenges. Some family transitions include adjustment to a new baby, relocation because of a job, the reuniting of spouses who have worked overseas or in the military, and families from other cultures adjusting to the United states. She has worked with men who are balancing expectations of involvement in family life while maintaining a career and women with the same stresses. If you are experiencing stresses in any of these areas, please feel free to call her office number.

If a family should be in the midst of a seperation or divorce she can work to help parents through parental coordiantion to establish “child-first” plans for their family.

She will engage with you during sessions, using her psychodynamic, relational and cognitive training.  Your relationship with her during your sessions will reflect, in part, how you relate to others in your world.  She will talk with you about this so that you can make use of this valuable information to further your success.

She has been Assistant Clinical Faculty at the George Washington Hospital Mediacal center and is currently on the voluntary faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at George Washington. She has been the Coordiantor of Family Therapy at that Department of Psychiatry as well.
